Friday, October 31, and accompanied by Dutch royal couple, the cooperation agreement was signed between Koppert Cress and the Japanese Murakami Noen in Tokyo, Japan. Rob Baan of Koppert Cress and Mr. Kiyotaka Murakami of Murakami Noen, together signed the contract in which the partners commit themselves to each other.
Both families have a strong position in the vegetable industry. Koppert Cress brings in the Dutch horticultural know-how and Murakami the knowledge of the Japanese market, and both emphasize the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. The state visit of King Willem Alexander, with the accompanying trade mission was an excellent opportunity to make the new cooperation official.
Both companies have a relationship for over 10 years, which is now confirmed by the signing of the agreement. Japanese horticultural generates products of very high quality, grown on a small scale. However, the technical level of Dutch horticulture is much higher. A combination of the excellent Japanese quality with the Dutch way of producing yields large efficiency advantages.
Baan, who has been doing business in Japan for a long time already, is also the initiator of the Dutch project that supports the reconstruction of Sendai. A group of Dutch horticultural companies offers its services in the redevelopment of the area. Sendai, which was devastated by the tsunami in 2011, has the potential to become one of the major horticultural regions of Japan.
Both Koppert Cress and Murakami are specialized in the production and marketing of freshly germinated plants. In Europe these are mainly used in gastronomy, but in Japan it is a very popular consumer product. The partners, as leaders in their field, aim of emphasizing the importance of good nutrition for human health.
