'Big' questions in ARTIS-Groote Museum

Koppert Cress and ARTIS-Groote Museum look to the future together.

In beautiful surroundings, between the flamingos

The ARTIS-Groote Museum is located in a beautifully renovated building right next to the zoo walls of ARTIS.

In the midst of the history of ARTIS, which this year celebrates its 185th anniversary as one of the five oldest zoos in the world, a special collaboration is coming to life.

ARTIS-Groote Museum and Koppert Cress may be an unexpected combination, but together they share a mission: to create awareness about the future of food and develop a planetary perspective on nutrition.

ARTIS-Groote Museum offers daily tours in which cress plays a modest, yet meaningful, role during the 'gatherings'. Meaningful 'Groote' questions are asked here that allow the visitor to see how humans relate to nature. We are not above it, but part of it.

What did your grandmother eat?, And what will your great-grandchildren eat?

A special addition to this dialogue are the cress experiences that take place during the meetings. Visitors are invited to reflect on their eating habits over time by answering questions such as: What did your grandmother used to put on the table? What do you eat now, and what will be on the menu in 20 years' time? The subtle use of cress during the interactive sessions contributes to the awareness of food (patterns).

'Let's change the way we look at food' is quite a challenge for Koppert Cress. Koppert Cress aims to make people aware of the importance of healthy food as crucial for a healthy existence.

Together, A shared mission

The collaboration between Koppert Cress and ARTIS-Groote Museum came about in a special way. During a trip through Armenia, where Rob Baan was looking for new plants, Haig Bailin, former director of Artis, and Rob Baan got into a conversation.

It is therefore a logical step in the missions of both. Both Koppert Cress and ARTIS-Groote Museum are pioneers in stimulating a renewed view on food in a sustainable way. It is wonderful that in ARTIS-Groote Museum not only can the future of food be considered, but also actively experienced in a playful way that inspires the public, young and old, and raises awareness.

Be amazed, by nature

ARTIS wants its visitors to be amazed by nature in the broadest sense of the word. From the smallest, invisible life in ARTIS-Micropia, to the rich biodiversity of animals and plants in ARTIS and the infinity of the universe in the ARTIS Planetarium.

A visit to this special ARTIS-Groote Museum, where you as a visitor experience the connection between all living things, is a must!
