Thursday and Friday the Koranic Ms. Jia Choi, gave two workshops in Monster (the Westland), for the promotion of Korean cuisine in the Netherlands. At the special invitation of five companies, the renowned chef had specially come to the Netherlands to introduce the unique and distinctive techniques and flavors of Korean cuisine to the Dutch gastronomy.
A number of chefs participated in a tweetjam where, after an introduction to Korean cuisine, they could prepare some dishes themselves. The sympathetic Ms. Choi provided the audience with animated explanations and excellent guidance in the first tentative steps in this relatively unknown area.
Friday was reserved for a demonstration in which Ms. Choi prepared some dishes and gave deeper insight in the facets and flavors of Korean cuisine. For interested chefs, who had not been able to come to the Westland, there was the opportunity to follow the entire event via live stream and react using social media.
Ms. Choi (Ph.D) is president of O'ngo Food Communications and a prestigious name in Korea. She is committed to various organizations to promote the Korean cuisine worldwide. Ms. Choi was requested by Fresh Retail, Koppert Cress, Rungis, Nice 2 Meat, Jan van As, and with the cooperation of the Korean Embassy, to come to the Netherlands to promote Korean cuisine. With the exception of the USA, where a large Korean community is alive, Korean cuisine is relatively unknown to the rest of the world.
